BP oil spill claims

The Deepwater Horizon disaster spilled approximately 4.9 million gallons of oil into the water, killed 11 oil rig workers, devastated our nation’s natural resources and profoundly harmed the economic and emotional well-being of hundreds of thousands of people.  WILLIAMS LAW GROUP, LLC has been representing people, families and businesses hurt by the BP oil spill since the disaster occurred.
Conrad “Duke” Williams, III was one of fifteen attorneys appointed by United States District Court Judge Carl J. Barbier as a member of the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the Multi-District Litigation representing the interests of all those affected by the oil spill. Duke was an instrumental member of the trial team that successfully prepared for and litigated the case against BP in early 2013.
The Deepwater Horizon Economic and Property Damages Settlement Agreement was reached between the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee and BP in March 2012. The Settlement compensates individuals and businesses that have suffered economic loss and property damage as a result of the oil spill. The Deepwater Horizon Medical Settlement Agreement also provides medical benefits to individuals who suffered acute or chronic illnesses from exposure to oil and chemical dispersants in the weeks and months after the oil spill. Judge Barbier granted final approval of the Economic and Property Damages Settlement on December 21, 2012. Final approval of the Medical Benefits Settlement was granted in January 2014.
Since then, BP has repeatedly challenged the Deepwater Horizon Settlement Agreement. BP’s attempts to derail the Settlement, ultimately, were met with little success. Most recently, the United States Supreme Court denied BP’s final attempt to unravel its own Settlement Agreement. The denial by the United States Supreme Court in January 2015 fully and finally confirmed the Settlement Agreement and thereby established an effective deadline by which all claims must be submitted to the Deepwater Horizon Settlement Program – June 8, 2015.
